The DIPRA® data modems DM2217D and DM 2221D are designed for the exchange of information over a DMR Tier III radio network, exploiting low VHF and high VHF frequencies, respectively. They are found at utilities for SCADA applications, i.e. telemetry and telecontrol, at public transportation companies to link between vehicular on-board computers and ITCS systems, as well as at road maintenance services for GPS and status information of vehicles.

Common among all these applications is the requirement for secure data transmission, independent of public communication networks and their vulnerability in the event of power blackout, network congestion on special occasions and natural disasters.

Utilizing a DIPRA® DMR radio network for both, voice and data communication, improves economic efficiency and safeguards investments.

Technically, the DMR Tier III specification describes a variety of data communications types. The Short Data Service (SDS) allows to submit data telegrams up to 1508 Bytes, whereby telegrams up to 462 Bits are transported via the control channel TSCC, data telegrams which are longer are transported via a payload or traffic channel.

A fast means for submitting small data packets up to 288 Bit is provided by the SDS Polling Service with a duration between 120 and 300ms for every polled data modem.
